Ukulele Workshop 8/30/21

VNEW has started its first musical instrument teaching workshop – “Beginning Ukulele” – a free three-month introductory class for veterans to learn how to play the ukulele. VNEW gave 13 free ukuleles and tuners to the workshop members to keep and practice, and the workshop is being taught via Zoom online by expert ukulele teacher, Melanie Kareem.

Members of the workshop have told us how learning to play the ukulele has helped them focus, cope with PTSD and fulfill their dreams to play a musical instrument. One of the veterans is playing with his two young sons enjoying great family time together.

Watch the VNEW website for announcements of additional music workshops. VNEW thanks two generous donors from Hawaii and The American Legion Ronald Reagan Palisades Post 283 for their support of this workshop. If you would like to support a veteran with a ukulele for an upcoming workshop please click here to donate - The veterans and we will appreciate your gift of music!

    The Veterans National Entertainment Workshop

We hope everyone and their families are well and safe during this COVID-19 pandemic. For veterans, especially those living alone or without support systems, these are difficult times filled with anxiety and stress. Necessities, healthcare and housing are critical. And activities we can do on our own - like playing music and singing songs - are more important than ever for personal well-being. Songs give us solace, thought and pleasure. Music takes us to places we can’t go now. And it brings us together even if we have to stay apart.

On this Memorial Day weekend 2020, we honor our military heroes. To keep the music going we’d like to share the video of our 2019 U.S. VETERANS CONCERT starting on Saturday, May 23, 2020. View the trailer here.

We look forward to the time when we can all gather together again. We are making plans for our next concert for mid 2021. The music must go on!
